FÄM - Save Yourself
FÄM is a musical duo composed of Jannick Colebunders and Marie Cassiers, a partnership that seamlessly blends Jannick's producing prowess and musical expertise with Marie's powerful lyrics and evocative vocals. Together, they create a dynamic synergy that delivers critical messages through a funky, engaging lens.
Jannick Colebunders is a 33-year-old musician and producer based in Mechelen. He began his musical journey as a drummer during his early teenage years but soon transitioned to exploring keyboards, synthesizers, and electronic music. This exploration led him to discover Ableton, which enabled him to experiment with rhythms, melodies, and harmonies. Influenced by the likes of Kaytranada, Disclosure, and Darius, Jannick's productions are marked by "dance vibes, four-to-the-floor kicks, and funky basslines." Jannick's role in FÄM encompasses playing the piano and producing the music.
Marie Cassiers is a 22-year-old artist and singer based in Antwerp. Music has always been her greatest passion and outlet, and she aspired to make a name for herself in the industry. After numerous attempts in talent shows, Marie began songwriting at age 17, often starting with ideas on her piano in her childhood bedroom. She co-founded "FÄM" with her brothers and remained committed to finding the right collaborators to bring her vision to life.
Jannick and Marie's paths crossed in the summer of 2022 through an ad on vi.be. Their immediate connection led to the birth of their first song, "Save Yourself," which encapsulates the core of FÄM's mission. The track poignantly explores the uneasy and unsafe feelings women often experience while walking alone in the streets. By shining a light on this pervasive issue, the duo seeks to inspire change and spark conversations.
"Save Yourself" marks the debut of FÄM's musical journey and is a potent introduction to their sound and message. Looking ahead, the duo plans to release new singles every eight weeks, covering a range of genres from electronic pop to jazz and soul.
In February 2024, Jannick and Marie traveled to London to collaborate with Chris Hyson, a renowned producer known for his work on Jordan Rakei's second album. Hyson brought in talented musicians Lloyd Haines (drums) and Sam Crowe (piano), both of whom have extensive experience working with notable artists such as Little Simz, Cleo Sol, Lianne La Havas, and Jordan Rakei.
While FÄM envisions a bright future, including aspirations of performing on main stages at festivals such as Pukkelpop and Werchter, the duo is focused on enjoying their creative journey and letting it unfold organically. They aim to embrace opportunities as they arise and continue collaborating with like-minded artists.
With their combined talents and dedication, Jannick and Marie are poised to leave a lasting impact on the music world, delivering powerful messages through captivating and innovative soundscapes.
