Indy Fontaine, the Cuban-American singer-songwriter, is making waves with her latest single, “Odiar y Querer,” from her debut album, “Moments of My Life.” The song, now available on all digital platforms, delves deep into the complex dualities of love and hate.

A Deep Dive into “Odiar y Querer”
“Odiar y Querer,” which translates to “To Hate and To Love,” is a piano and vocal ballad that perfectly showcases Indy’s talent for interpretation. The track, both written and composed by Indy, captures the delicate boundary between love and hate, highlighting how easily one can transition from one emotion to the other.

Reflecting on her inspiration, Indy shares, “As a teenager, I fell in love with a man 20 years my senior. His charisma and life experience captivated many, and I was thrilled by his attention. However, it was more of an illusion than reality, and it took me years to realize that. Reflecting on that period, I found inspiration in the journey from infatuation to empowerment. I’m now able to look back with clarity, free from those past emotions, and understand the experience for what it was. This song isn’t sad because I’m no longer in pain—I’m proud of my growth.”

A Visual and Auditory Experience
Alongside the single, Indy presents the music video for “Odiar y Querer,” filmed at the historic El Castillo de la Tropical in Cuba under the direction of Michelle Hernandez. The video features two main locations and a forest setting, with Indy and her piano taking center stage.

“Filming ‘Odiar y Querer’ was a truly beautiful experience. I loved Michelle’s idea of incorporating fire, as it represents the dual nature of love—beautiful yet dangerous. The lighting and setting created the perfect ambiance to complement the song’s theme of a love-hate confession. The location, El Castillo de la Tropical, is an architectural gem built in 1911. Originally designed as a playhouse and residence for the La Tropical Gardens administrator, the building, inspired by the Alhambra in Granada, adds a unique charm unlike any other place in Cuba,” Indy explains.

The Journey of “Moments of My Life”
Indy’s debut album, “Moments of My Life,” marks a significant milestone in her career. It’s the first time she performs songs she has written herself. Indy also served as the album’s executive producer, collaborating with Mike Fahey, who contributed to production elements and handled engineering and mixing. Beth Cohen co-produced Indy’s vocal performance on several English tracks, while Pete Lyman from Infrasonic Sound mastered the album.

Celebrating Success
“Odiar y Querer” follows a series of successful singles from the album, including “Eres Luz,” which recently received a YouTube certification for surpassing 1 million views. This milestone marks Indy’s first video to achieve such a feat. The album also features notable tracks like “Devil in Angel Skin,” “El Amor No Alcanza,” “Capricho de Dos,” and “Is This Love,” all of which have enjoyed radio airplay in countries such as Mexico, Spain, and Argentina. Additionally, the heartfelt song “Paula de Abril” expresses Indy’s gratitude and love for her daughter.

Earlier this year, Indy gifted her homeland, Cuba, by releasing her first album in physical format. She also held a sold-out performance at Havana’s Teatro Hall of the National Museum of Fine Arts of Cuba.
