Carson Daly dubbed him a “New York Institution!” For three decades, Milo Z has been captivating audiences with his unique blend of musical genres, creating a style he calls “Razzamofunk” – a fusion of Rock, Rap, R&B, Jazz, and Funk. Born and raised on New York City’s Lower East Side, Milo Z’s journey into music started in an unexpected way when, at the age of 13, he and a friend “borrowed” some drums from the back of a U-Haul truck. Reflecting on his past, Milo admits, “I didn’t know it at the time, but my juvenile delinquency actually led me to a place where I would find some direction in my life, and that direction was music!”
Fast forward a few years, Milo Z began rapping, which evolved into singing and songwriting, eventually becoming a frontman and band leader. Today, he is renowned for his dynamic live performances, whether in small clubs, large amphitheaters, or corporate/private events. “It’s my goal to get everyone up on their feet dancing and feeling like they got lost for a while. Then I know I’ve done my job,” says Milo.
Milo Z’s career began with the release of his first record, “Basic Need to Howl,” on the Mercury Polygram label in 1994. Since then, he has consistently released albums and singles on various labels and independently. His impressive discography includes two live CDs, “Live n’ Bumpin” (recorded at the famous, now-defunct Tramps club in NYC) and “Milo Z Up On the Hill: Live in Athens, Greece,” which is also available as a DVD, capturing his performance at the Lycabettus Theater.
Recently, Milo Z released a new single, “Show Ya (Just One Chance),” a classic old-school R&B slow jam described as “grown folks baby-making music” reminiscent of the retro Jodeci vibe. Milo Z plans to release more singles in the coming months, spanning political rock, hip hop with a message, and classic old-school soul music akin to Otis Redding’s style. Notably, he has collaborated with singer Traedonya, the uptown boogie-down funk soul queen, adding her brilliant vocals and style to his new music.
Milo Z is a performer at heart, regularly playing in the New York/metro area and abroad. His live shows are a testament to his status as a true entertainer. Throughout his career, Milo Z has shared the stage with many legendary artists, including Al Greene, Chuck Brown, Maceo Parker, The Neville Brothers, The Meters, Bernie Worrell, The Family Stone, Lou Reed, The Spin Doctors, Massive Attack, The Average White Band, KRS One, Robert Randolph, and Fred Wesley. His music has also been featured in numerous films and television shows.

Miller of the Patriot Ledger describes his latest album, “Throwback,” as one of the year’s most invigorating blasts of pure energy, highlighting its cohesive collection of songs that pay homage to his roots in 1970s soul and funk. Dan Aquilante of the New York Post praises Milo Z’s funk, honed to an edge you could shave with, while Mario Lopez from The Examiner notes the seamless fusion of old-school vibes with new-school swag in his melodies.
