Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck Call It Quits After Two Years of Marriage

Hollywood power couple Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are officially ending their marriage, according to records from the Los Angeles Superior Court. Lopez filed for dissolution on Tuesday, marking an unexpected twist in the couple’s high-profile love story, which reignited in 2021 after years apart.

The timing of the filing is poignant, coinciding with the anniversary of their 2022 wedding ceremony in Riceboro, Georgia. This romantic event followed their spontaneous elopement in Las Vegas just a month earlier. Despite the fairy-tale nature of their reunion, the past few months have seen the couple living separately, with Lopez canceling her summer tour to focus on her family and the pair putting their Beverly Hills home on the market.

Efforts to reach representatives for both Lopez and Affleck have yet to yield any comments, leaving fans and media alike speculating on the reasons behind the split.

This divorce adds another chapter to a saga that has fascinated fans for over two decades. Lopez and Affleck first met on the set of the 2003 comedy Gigli, where their on-screen chemistry sparked a real-life romance. Their relationship quickly became tabloid fodder, with every twist and turn captured by the paparazzi. They first got engaged in November 2002, with Affleck presenting Lopez with a stunning 6.1-carat pink diamond ring. However, the intense media scrutiny proved too much, and the couple postponed their wedding just days before the ceremony in September 2003. By January 2004, they had officially split, leaving “Bennifer” fans heartbroken.

The couple went their separate ways, each marrying and starting families with other partners. But in a surprising turn of events, Lopez and Affleck found their way back to each other in 2021, rekindling their romance and bringing “Bennifer 2.0” into the spotlight. Their reunion was met with widespread excitement, with Lopez even declaring to People magazine that she felt “lucky and happy” to be with Affleck once more. The pair became Instagram official in July 2021, and by April 2022, they were engaged again.

Their 2024 documentary, The Greatest Love Story Never Told, chronicled this rekindled romance and Lopez’s personal journey of self-discovery. In the film, Affleck shared insights on how he learned to “compromise” with Lopez, particularly regarding her desire to share their private life more publicly.

However, cracks began to show in recent months. The couple was often spotted on opposite coasts, and Lopez’s Bridgerton-themed birthday bash in July notably lacked Affleck’s presence.

Lopez and Affleck’s breakup is a bittersweet end to what many hoped would be a Hollywood happy-ever-after. Lopez shares two children with ex-husband Marc Anthony, while Affleck has three children with his ex-wife, Jennifer Garner.

As the dust settles on their latest split, it seems that even in the world of glitz and glamour, some love stories are just too complicated to sustain. The “Bennifer” saga may be over for now, but it will undoubtedly remain one of Hollywood’s most talked-about romances for years to come.
