Rich Homie Quan, born Dequantes Devontay Lamar, passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at the age of 33. The Fulton County Medical Examiner confirmed his death, though the cause remains unknown pending an autopsy scheduled for the following day.
The shocking news sent waves through the music world, with artists like Boosie Badazz and Jacquees leading the tributes. Boosie, an early informant of Quan’s death, expressed his disbelief on X, while Jacquees, a long-time collaborator, honored their decade-long friendship.
Rich Homie Quan emerged as one of Atlanta’s brightest rap stars in the mid-2010s. His 2013 breakout hit, Type of Way, peaked at No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100, marking the start of a successful career. Collaborating with the likes of YG on My Hitta and Young Thug on Lifestyle, Quan helped solidify Atlanta’s dominance in hip-hop. His solo hit Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh) further showcased his melodic flow, reaching No. 12 on the Billboard charts in 2015.
Most recently, Quan made a return to the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart with his feature on Travis Scott’s Mamacita, which was re-released in honor of the 10th anniversary of Scott’s Days Before Rodeo.
Despite his struggles, Quan remained influential, releasing music independently, including the 2024 singles Ah’chi featuring 2 Chainz and Authentic. His last full-length project, Family & Mula – Reloaded, dropped in 2022 under his own label, Rich Homie Entertainment.
