Is Meek Mill’ really going to retire soon? It seems his days as a rapper may be numbered.
Trailing the release of his album Expensive Pain, the Philly rapper revealed that he’s planning to step away from the hip hop scene within the next few years. During an interview with Complex’s “360 with Speedy Morman,” the 34-year-old teased his possible retirement.
“I got like three, four more years left,” said Meek. “I’ve been rapping since I was 23. I can’t be performing forever. I probably got two, three more years. I think these the last years I’m going hard with music and I’m gonna go pursue like other stuff too.”
The process of creating music and touring has taken a toll on him. “I’ll still make music but going on tour, working on the album, six months being away from my family that long, I give up,” he said. “Let the young ni**as come up next…and just move me out of the way.”
In a statement, Meek said he plans to release “four or five more albums” before transitioning to a different role.
He still plans to rap, but he won’t be doing it at the level he is now. “I’ll still be rapping…but I ain’t gonna make that my priority of my day job.”
But first, he plans to release an “Extendo Pack” of his fifth studio album Expensive Pain, which will feature additional tracks including a possible collaboration with Pop Smoke.
Coming this Saturday, Meek will headline his “Meek Mill and Friends” concert at New York City’s Madison Square Garden with special guests Lil Uzi Vert, Fivio Foreign, 42 Dugg, and more.
