Among the highlights of his rich existence, Kenny Garrett keeps those related to music deep in his soul, his memory, his heart. No wonder that he took up the practice of the saxophone from the age of 9 years. He says it himself when he unveils the concept which presided over the recording of his last album “Sounds from the ancestors”: “I tried to find some of the sounds that came back to me from my childhood, sounds that had uplifted my spirit thanks to people like John Coltrane with “A Love supreme”, Aretha Franklin with “Amazing grace”, Marvin Gaye with “What’s going on” and also quite a spiritual contribution related to the church. When I thought of all these wonderful musicians, I realized this was the spirit of my ancestors. “
One can easily imagine the pleasure of shaping this new opus pulsed by such beautiful influences: “My music has always been open to the world and I listen to all kinds of music from jazz of course through classical but also, from music. hip-hop, r’n’b, oriental, Asian, French music… This disc embodies the place where I am at the moment on the course of my journey as a man on the move towards my personal destination. “
Rhythmic cosmopolitanism
