EMINEM HEADED TO ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAME - BUT NOT WITH A TRIBE CALLED QUEST

 

CLEVELAND, OH –Eminem is officially among the 2022 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees. The Rock Hall made the announcement on Wednesday (May 4), revealing its 2022 class.

Dolly Parton, Lionel Richie, Pat Benatar, Duran Duran, Judas Priest, Eurythmics, Carly Simon, Henry Belafonte, Elizabeth Cotten, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Allen Grubman, Jimmy Iovine, Sugar Hill Records founder Sylvia Robinson and, of course,Slim Shady will receive the honor on November 5 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

Eminem is one of the only Hip Hop solo acts to make the cut, following JAY-Zwho was inducted in 2021. The 49-year-old MC landed in the Rock Hall in his first year of eligibility and will be the 20th Detroit performer enshrined in the institution's 36-year history.

Meanwhile, A Tribe Called Quest, MC5, Rage Against the Machine, Beck, Fela Kuti, Dionne Warwick, Kate Bush, New York Dolls and Devo didn't earn enough votes for induction, at least not this time around.

Eminem was a strong contender for the prestigious honor from the moment the Rock Hall announced its 2022 prospects. The ballot officially closed on April 29 with a grand total of five million votes. Duran Duran, Eminem and Pat Benatar landed in Top 3 with Duran Duran collecting nearly 934,000 votes, Slim Shady with around 684,000 and Benatar with approximately 634,0000.

The Eurythmics came in fourth place with over 440,000 votes, followed by Dolly Parton in fifth place who in recent months withdrew from Rock Hall consideration only to reconsider her stance. Finishing just outside the Top 5 was 3x-nominee Judas Priest, Carly Simon and Lionel Richie.
