Video of Houston security guard weeping at Kendrick Lamar concert racks up 11 million views

Devyn Sanford, a security guard working at the Houston Toyota Center has got the internet buzzing after a video surfaced of him weeping at a Kendrick Lamar concert over last weekend. The Compton rapper made a stop in the Bayou City last Friday for his ongoing "The Big Steppers" tour. 

In a now-viral TikTok that has been making waves online, the security guard  can be seen standing just off stage, wiping away tears from his face and quietly singing and bobbing his head along to Lamar performing "Love," the Zacari-featured track from his 2017 album "Damn."

So far, the clip has garnered over 11 million views on TikTok since it was posted. Lamar fans have also since reacted to the tender moment, one commenting, "MY HEART. The way music touches our souls in ways like this ugh love this." Another wrote: "BUT WHY DID THIS MAKE ME CRY." One person commented that "getting paid and having a spiritual experience" is a win. 

After being made aware of fans' reactions to the video, Sanford also commented, writing: "That’s me in the post y’all… this song means EVERYTHING to me and I was feeling everybody around me emotions… definitely love getting paid to do this."

When interviewed by Fox 26, Sanford, who works for a private events staffing company, said he had no idea that the moment had been captured until after the concert. "I woke up the next day and it was everywhere," he said. "I'm still taking it all in right now." 

Sanford told Fox that Lamar is one of his favorite artists so he made sure to find a way to be at the Houston concert. "I debated about whether to buy tickets or work the show and I decided to work it and it was still just as impactful to me," he said, adding that the song "Love" holds significant meaning for him. 

"It brought me back to when the song first came out. I was going through a tumultuous time in my life at that point," he told Fox. "The words, the crowd around me, everyone was screaming and reaching for Kendrick and crying and I kind of like absorbed everybody's emotions. I was trying my best to hold it together and I just cracked." Sanford said Lamar's team has since reached out to him to send him free merchandise. 

Lamar's tour, which kicked off in June, had stops in Houston, Dallas and Austin last week. The ongoing tour supports his fifth studio album "Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers," which was released in May.
