At the age of 23, Alexandre Deschamps discovered his passion for music. It wasn’t obvious from the start; it was then that he picked up a guitar for the first time, unaware of the profound impact it would have on his life. Self-taught, he learned music on his own, using it as a means to express his emotions and sensitivity. His childhood was steeped in classic French songs by Jacques Brel, Léo Ferré, and Claude Nougaro, as well as legendary English-speaking artists such as Pat Metheny, David Gilmour, and Peter Gabriel. This dual influence shaped his rich and varied musical universe.
Driven by a fascination with Anglo-Saxon culture, Alexandre crossed the Atlantic to immerse himself in the Los Angeles music scene. For over a year, he frequented the city’s concert halls, perfecting his guitar technique with prestigious mentors. This stay in the United States allowed him to develop technical mastery and artistic depth that would define his musical style.
Back in Belgium, Alexandre Deschamps returned with a head full of stories to tell. He formed a new band, comprising a drummer, a bassist, and himself on synth, piano, and guitar. Together, they performed on numerous stages, bringing a fresh energy to the Belgian music scene. Alexandre quickly gained recognition, even participating in Eurovision and sharing the stage with renowned artists such as Jean-Louis Aubert and La Grande Sophie.
Alexandre blends genres, infusing French chanson with his versatile musical talent. His lyrics, poetic and overflowing with humanity, resonate particularly with fans of Bernard Lavilliers, Ben Mazué, and Francis Cabrel. His compositions reflect his thoughts and feelings, addressing various topics such as current economic, political, and human realities. “These moments of creation transcend me, go beyond me. It’s an abandonment without calculation, without objective! There have been no shortage of topics lately, whether it’s the strange economic, political, or human reality, which has and continues to shake even the bravest among us. There is also this immense spiritual wave flooding the beginning of the 21st century. What an incredible period for inspiration!”
Alexandre is currently working on his next album, titled “The Time of the Sun”. This musical project is a dive into his deep concerns and inspirations. “It is in our troubled period that I began ‘The Time of the Sun’, the next album to be released. Through this musical project, I have preserved my compositions from current trends and returned to what was most dear to me, the lyrics. Driven by subjects that torment me, these compositions draw from a classical heritage, always at the crossroads of genres. Above all, they have the pretension and humility of being simply songs created with the heart and that speak only to it. I hope it touches yours…”
