Africa is graced with sound maestros that have played pivotal roles in the evolution of African music with the works they put in. 


This article is centered on the Rap MVP's with the intent to offer our flowers to the greats and transit to the leaders of the new generation of hip hop and rap culture in the continent . With due respect, a countdown of 10 who have gracefully been key tools to the rap endeavor are .

 

10. M.anifest ;

Kwame Ametepee Tsikata, also known as  M Dor-dor-dor-ti-dor, M Digidi, god MC, born 20 November 1982 is veteran Ghanian rapper, songwriter and record producer. His style ranges from Hip-Life, Afro beats and sometimes R&B. Known to his fans as the Greatest Rapper of All Time, Kwame is known for his revolutionary lyrics  that seek to speak out for Africa's poor masses and the few elites often proffering resolutions.

 

9. Kaligraph Jones ;

Brian Ouko Omollo, born 12 June 1990 is a Kenyan rapper born and raised in Nairobi Kenya. He started his musical career while still in elementary school and officially began his career in 2008 at a function called "Words And Pictures.

A pioneer figure in Kenyan hip hop, His Chanel 0 Emcee Africa award in 2009 is responsible for putting him in public lens.

However it'll be 9 years later the award that Khaligraph's debut studio album " Testimony 1990" was released to high critical acclaim and was crowned "Best Rap Act of the Year" at the fifth Annual African Muzik Magazine Awards that same year, 2018.

Khaligraph is considered the most influential east African rapper and one of the best from Africa to have checked the mic!

 

8. MI Abaga

Jude Abaga was born in 1981 in Jos, Nigeria. He is considered an important figure in the Nigerian rap scene and has contributed immensely to its growth. He gained recognition from the release of 'Crowd Mentality' the first single from his LP (Talk About It). Crowd Mentality first went viral in Jos before diffusing nationwide, gaining recognition for M.I almost instantly. The release of his debut album 'Talk About It' was welcomed with positive remarks and gets him the respect he so desired. He even came to be called 'Nigeria's hip hop Messiah', a position he has managed well in the last decade - constantly raising the bar and paving way for other rappers that have also come to be seen as pro-verifiers, most notably his younger brother Jesse Jagz and his longtime friend and partner Ice Prince Zamani.
